The first Global Youth Sevens event was a great success with 10 teams competing at Sacred Heart College and being broadcast on Sky Sport 1. Australia Won the boys’ title and the NZ Condors team beat the Wasps to place first in the girls’.

3 players went on from the tournament to represent their nations at the senior level during the HSBC World Series event.

After a stellar first year, the event grew to host 14 sides including teams from Canada, Japan and Tonga. The NZ u17 girls triumphed over Australia to win the girls’ title, while the NZ Condors Boys side defeated the NZ Fijians for first place in the Boys’ division.

Key developments included expanding live coverage to both NZ Sky Sports and Fox Sports in Australia, as well as being broadcast to Fiji. Media coverage also increased with interviews on TV1 & TV3 and content highlights on the NZ Herald & TVNZ websites.

The 3rd edition of the Global Youth Sevens lived up to the hype, as 19 teams competed over two days for top position. The NZ boys squad and the Australian girls team won their respective finals which were broadcast throughout New Zealand on Sky TV.

The tournament is also gaining strong media attention including local papers, several TVNZ news stories and over 120,000 views on social media. The event was also live streamed with large international followings in NZ, Australia, Fiji, Canada and parts of Europe.
